Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy, derived from an ancient Chinese
technique that is designed to promote wellness. It utilizes the healing art
of massage and finger pressure techniques. Shiatsu practitioners work
on the body's muscles to release pressure and thus relieve the effects of
stress that many people suffer from.
The Shiatsu practitioner studies the body's meridian pressure points in
order to manipulate the body's muscles and blood circulation in order to
promote health. Shiatsu techniques are designed to treat people in all
situations. Some Shiatsu techniques can help ease daily tensions, while
other techniques are designed to relieve the symptoms of the common
cold.
Shiatsu practitioners must gain a professional qualification in order to
practice Shiatsu and this usually takes one to two years of full-time
study. Once qualified, Shiatsu practitioners can help cure back problems,
headaches, digestive problems, sports injuries, depression and other
general physical problems.
In order to treat patients, the Shiatsu practitioner may utilize a number of
techniques, such as, checking a patient's pulse, tongue, or spine. During
initial treatment, a patient is usually required to answer questions about
their medical past. Treatment is carried out on a traditional Japanese futon
mattress that is positioned on the floor.
